Peach Crisp

2 cups fresh sliced peaches
1 ¾ cup sugar
¼ cup butter or margarine softened
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup milk
1 tbsp. cornstarch
¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
1 cup boiling water
Whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

Place peaches in the bottom on an 8 inch square pan.

Cream ¾ cup sugar and butter until light in a small mixing bowl. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in bowl. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing well between additions. Spoon batter over peaches.

Sift together 1 cup sugar, cornstarch and nutmeg; sprinkle over batter in pan. Pour water over all. Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until lightly browned. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
Cover and refrigerate overnight
